Letters sent to the council

Dear Councillors

CARE AND CONSIDERATION IN DEVELOPING THE CANAL CORRIDOR
I know that Cllr Rostron once lived in Bowerham. Since her youth she will have seen much open space disappear in Lancaster. Both of you will appreciate how fortunate we are in Slyne-with-Hest to have open space both within the village and in the Green Belt around it.

Thus, I hope you will support those seeking to ensure that central Lancaster residents have similar space for informal recreation.

At the Council Meeting on 11th December Cllrs. Barry and Dowding have put down a motion calling on Lancaster City Council not to sell council land in the Canal Corridor for a supermarket or big box retailing. Also they ask that the Council to consult fully with the public before selling any more of its land for supermarkets or big-box retailing.

I cannot see how the electorate of Slyne-with-Hest would benefit from any more large retail outlets in addition to those available on the old Pye garage site and at White Lund and Westgate.

Whilst recognising that Williamson’s Park is available, I feel most of yo ur electors would support their peers in Lancaster in wishing for some informal recreation space close to their homes and the city centre. Although it is hard to imagine, some of those moving into the luxury flats sprouting up everywhere will have children who need kick-about space, and even the parents might like somewhere pleasant to stroll.

Thus I hope you will vote for Cllrs. Barry and Dowding’s motion on Dec 11 th.

Yours sincerely
